Director, Public Relations
BACKGROUND:
U/S Sports Advisors is a creative, sports marketing agency, helping companies and athletes maximize their potential. Our clients look for "game changing" approaches to their markets, and innovative ways to succeed. We've taken on assignments from industry leaders like American Honda and Honda Performance Development, change agents like the American Motorcyclist Association, emerging market champions like St. Vincent Sports Performance, and sports innovators like the National Basketball Players Association. U/S Sports Advisors has hired Ascension Sports Partners to help identify a qualified public relations and communications professional to become Director, Public Relations.
SUMMARY:
For the Company’s clients, the Director of Public Relations will create public relations programs, which offer national exposure; Manage the media, publicity and promotions; Obtain maximum media coverage; and ensure the promotion and publicity for U/S Sports Advisors and its clients are at their optimum level.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive annual public relations plan, which encompass advertising and promotional activities for individual athletes and businesses;
- Lead staff members in the development and execution of public relations plan elements;
- Communicate department activities with CEO, executive team members, and staff;
- Work with clients to ensure contractual obligations are met by maximizing media exposure;
- Organizing events including press conferences, exhibitions, open days and press tours; and
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have previous and successful experience in the above-mentioned duties. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
- Four (4) year degree in Public Relations, Marketing, or Communications;
- At least five (5) to seven (7) years experience in Sports Management/Information;
- Marketing/Promotions, Communications or Public/Media Relations at the executive/management level;
- High level of initiative and inner drive;
- Must have working knowledge of Associated Press Style Guide, creative design, and video news releases;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
- Knowledge of fax broadcast systems and modem transfer of statistics preferred;
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays;
- Excellent people skills; an ability to interact effectively and in a professional, diplomatic, and mature manner with VIP’s as well as internal and external clients at all levels is a must;
- Candidate must have problem solving skills as well as excellent communication and presentation skills;
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and work effectively in a high-pressure environment; and
- Computer literacy is required.
