Fans are asked for recipe submissions and restaurant recommendations
New York, Thursday, August 26, 2010 - Five months ago, New York Jets tight end Dustin Keller began a monthly food column in the New York Times entitled “I Eight One,” which plays off of his jersey No. 81. Keller has a great love of food, and since moving to New York City, he has discovered that his food palate has expanded by trying new and different things. He’s written about many food items in the Times and has encouraged people to experiment with their food choices. Now the third-year NFL pro is looking for guidance from aspiring chefs and hometown cooks from all around the country on Facebook.
On the new Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ieightone) Keller asks people to submit their favorite recipes. Although the new page debuted just a few days ago, there are already several recipe items posted, ranging from Spicy Korean Tacos to Spanish Sangria. Keller has plans to produce an “I Eight One” cookbook in the future, and some of these recipe submissions from the Facebook page may make the book’s final edits.
Keller is also asking fans for good restaurant recommendations on his new Facebook page. The Jets are on the road this season in Charlotte, Philadelphia, Miami, Buffalo, Denver, Detroit, Cleveland, Foxboro, Pittsburgh and Chicago, and Keller is looking for good restaurant stops and “must-eats” in or near each of those cities.
The New York Times monthly “I Eight One” column features several food story lines, including New York City restaurant reviews, eating habits of Jets players and nutritional guidelines. Installments of “I Eight One” can be found at http://fifthdown.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/03/30/dustin-keller-i-eight-one/.
Since launching the New York Times column in April, Keller has been a celebrity judge at the Great American Food & Music Fest at the new Meadowlands in New Jersey, had a guest appearance on an upcoming episode of Worst Cooks in America on the Food Network and also spent a day at the ESPN studios in Bristol, CT talking about “I Eight One” on several ESPN outlets. On July 31, Keller hosted an “I Eight One” Pre-season Kickoff Party at the Village Pourhouse in New York.
